Adversity and Trauma
CORE’s adversity and trauma research looks at how trauma and life experiences shape health.
Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACES) and traumatic events such as violence, abuse, and neglect can play a major role in shaping long-term health and wellness. These experiences have been linked to chronic health problems, mental health concerns, and a variety of other disparate health outcomes. Plus, according to the CDC, they lead to significant economic and social costs to families, communities, and society, which total hundreds of billions of dollars each year.
CORE’s adversity and trauma research reflects our broad focus on the Social Determinants of Health. Through this work, we seek to understand and address the role of adversity and traumatic experiences on health outcomes, with the goal of informing upstream prevention as well as downstream trauma-informed care.
