The entrance exams for Covenant School of Nursing includes the HESI Admission Assessment for the RN Program.

Admission Assessment

The HESI Admission Assessment is comprised of five sections:

  1. English - Reading Comprehension
  2. Math - Basic Math Skills
  3. Science - Biology, Anatomy and Physiology
  4. Learner Profile - Learning Style, Personality Profile
  5. Critical Thinking - Problem Solving, Biases and Ethical Dilemmas, Argument Analysis, Analysis of Data

The minimum score that CSON will accept for our program:

  • English- 70% composite score
  • Math- 65% composite score
  • Science- 60% composite score

If the tester fails to pass a section or multiple sections, the tester will have to retake the whole exam at a later date. Each tester will be allowed to only take the HESI Admission Assessment twice each application period. The HESI exam can only be taken at our location at the times that are on the registration page.

After you have completed your HESI Admissions Assessment, you will need to print out your scores and place them in the application packet before turning the application packet into the admissions committee. The scores will be added to your HESI account as soon as you have completed you assessment. You will need to go to your scores and print off both RN admissions assessment scores and your critical thinking scores.

The study guide with the ISBN: 9781635306675 is titled "HESI A2 Study Guide 2020-2021: Exam Prep Book and Practice Test Questions for the HESI Admission Assessment Exam." It is available for purchase online or for rent from CSON at a cost of $25.00.

Please note that our testing does not cover the following categories: Vocabulary, Grammar, Physics, and Chemistry.

To rent a study guide, the tester must visit our office located at 1919 Frankford Ave, Lubbock, Texas, and present a confirmation of their exam registration. Failure to return the study guide on the day of the exam will result in the tester being unable to take the exam. In such cases, the tester will be required to pay the full exam fee in order to reschedule.

If a tester needs to reschedule an exam, the tester will have to email Trent McGuire or Katie Martin; or call 806-725-8949 or 806-725-8902 no later than 24 hours before the scheduled exam time. There will be a $25 fee to reschedule an exam.

If the tester does not contact Mr. McGuire or Mrs. Martin in the time frame, or does not show for their scheduled exam, the tester will have to register for a future exam and pay the exam fee again.
