Partnership with LCU

This partnership aligns perfectly with Covenant's mission of teaching future nursing students to care for the whole person – body, mind and spirit – and by working with others such as LCU to improve health and quality of life in this community and region.

Covenant School of Nursing and Lubbock Christian University are the first to form a partnership of this type in the state of Texas. Both organizations would like to stress the word "Partnership." This is not a merger, because both entities will retain their own identity. Both programs are forming a united front to benefit future nursing students. The Texas Board of Nursing has commended us for our innovative approach to helping students achieve a higher level of education. Both programs are dedicated to providing future nurses the best education and real-world experience they can receive.

Once a student graduates from CSON, they are streamlined into the nursing program at Lubbock Christian University (LCU) to complete a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. This transition takes place approximately three months after graduation from CSON and takes two-to-three semesters to complete. All students must pass the National Council Licensure Examination – RN (NCLEX – RN) before entering LCU. Covenant encourages graduates to complete higher levels of education by receiving their Master's (MSN), Family Nurse Practitioner License, or even PhD in Nursing. Nursing Educators are in short supply, so think about the role of an instructor as your end goal.

Quick Degree Overview

LCU degree plan

  1. After graduation from CSON you receive a temporary license to work as a Graduate Nurse until you take the Texas Board of Nursing RN Licensure Exam.
  2. After passing this exam and gaining employment (length of time is usually about three months), you will continue at LCU for your BSN.
  3. The degree plan at LCU from RN to BSN istwo semesters and is designed to fit into the schedule of a full-time working nurse. You take fewer courses at a time over a six-to-eight week span until you have completed all classes. Upon completion of these requirements you graduate with a Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN).
