Family Birth Center
At the Providence St. Peter Hospital and Providence Centralia Hospital Family Birth Centers, we offer family-centered care from pregnancy through delivery. Every year, we deliver more babies than any other hospital in our service area. We’ll keep you comfortable, physically and emotionally.
Obstetrician-gynecologists and certified midwives deliver thousands of newborns every year. Whether babies arrive early, on time or late, our team is ready to assist you in welcoming them to your family. Providence St. Peter Hospital is home to a Level II Special Care Nursery, which means we have advanced expertise and facilities to care for high-risk infants, including those with feeding or breathing problems.
At Providence, you and your new baby will have expert medical care from a team eager to ease your concerns and share your joy.
TeamBirth is the innovative and inclusive approach we use for deliveries and is aimed at enhancing safety, equity and dignity for all birthing families. You and your support person will have an active involvement in your birthing process, collaborating directly with your care team. They will always keep you informed, as you are an essential part of the decision-making process during your entire birthing experience.
Our team of experts work together to ensure that welcoming a new child to your family is everything you imagined it to be.
During labor and delivery your care team may include:

- Certified Nurse Midwives: A certified health professional who helps healthy women during labor, delivery, and after the birth of their babies.
- Family Practice Doctors: Primary care providers that are trained to care for both adult and pediatric patients, including delivering babies.
- Labor & Delivery Nurses: Specialized nurses that help care for mothers and newborns during labor and after birth.

After your baby has arrived you may see some additional members on your care team:

Our birth centers combine the comforts of home with high-tech equipment and high-touch resources. We offer support at every step to ease your childbirth experience.
- Obstetrics Triage: Our expert nursing staff is available at any time to evaluate expectant mothers who may be going into labor.
- Private Rooms: When you arrive at the hospital, you’ll be admitted to a private room where you will remain for your entire stay. Each room has a sleeper sofa, television and free Wi-Fi
- ccess. Our team is excited to help you commemorate the birth of your baby by providing a celebratory meal for you and your partner.
- Jacuzzi Tub: During labor, we offer a jacuzzi tub to assist with pain management.
- OR Suites: If you require a Cesarean Section, the Family Birth Center is equipped with its own operating room.
- Level I Nursery: If additional care is needed, we offer a Level 1 Nursery, taking newborns who are 35-week gestation and above. If nursery care is required, we will stabilize your newborn and determine if a higher level of care is needed, at which time we will provide transportation and coordinate care with a facility that provides that care, like Providence St. Peter Hospital.
To keep things on track and in line with your wishes, download our birth plan form and share your completed form with your care provider before your eighth month of pregnancy. You’ll want to have a copy ready when you come to the hospital to deliver your baby.

If you breastfeed and are able, please consider donating milk for other infants in need, such as premature or medically fragile infants who don’t have access to breast milk. Our certified lactation nurses will answer your questions about becoming a breast milk donor. They’ll assist you with the screening process and delivery to a certified milk bank. There, experts will process, pasteurize and distribute the milk to infants who need it. To learn more or share your gift of breast milk contact the Northwest Mothers Milk Bank by calling 503-469-0955.
