Stroke is a leading cause of death and the number one cause of disability, but the advances available at a small number of hospitals are changing those statistics: we’re proud to be one of them.

St. Jude Medical Center is a nationally-recognized Advanced Comprehensive Stroke Center, a designation that places us among an elite group of hospitals capable of treating even the most complex stroke and cerebrovascular conditions. Fewer than 200 hospitals in the nation have earned this advanced recognition.

Nationally recognized by The Joint Commission and the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association, St. Jude Medical Center’s Advanced Comprehensive Stroke Center Services provides quick and accurate treatment for stroke patients.

We take a compassionate and family-centered approach to patient care, keeping patients' loved ones informed of their medical status and progress.

For the last five years, our comprehensive care and the ability to deliver it rapidly have been recognized with awards such as the Gold Plus Award and Target Stroke Award for superior stroke care from the AHA and ASA.

This coveted honor distinguishes our expertise and outcomes as among the best in the nation—and highlights the skill and commitment of our physicians, surgeons and caregivers. More importantly, it offers you the confidence of knowing there is no better place to receive care.

St. Jude has also been designated a Stroke-Neurology Receiving Center for Orange and Los Angeles Counties. Our services include today’s best advances in:

  • Emergency Medicine
  • Stroke Neurology
  • Interventional Neuroradiology
  • Neurosurgery
  • Neurocritical Care
  • Neurorehabilitation

Our physicians and staff are actively engaged in cutting-edge clinical trials and research in the field of stroke and cerebrovascular diseases. Bringing ground-breaking multidisciplinary clinical trials for acute stroke treatment and secondary prevention of stroke to our patients is a priority of the research program.

We have a highly-experienced and dedicated research team working with stroke clinicians to enroll qualifying patients in clinical trials. Our partnership with academic, industry and pharmaceutical research programs, as well as the National Institute of Health StrokeNet Consortium ensures patients have access to the most advanced clinical and research trials close to home. Clinical trials participation also allows patients to share their medical information which leads to scientific advancements in the treatment of acute strokes.

We are currently participating in Clinical Trials and Research in the following areas:

  • Ischemic strokes
  • Hemorrhagic strokes
  • Endovascular treatment for strokes
  • Cerebral aneurysm
  • Neurovascular thrombectomy
  • Stroke-related early tracheostomy
  • Outcomes based on medical care received
