Safety and Security

The Security Department strives to ensure the safety and security of all patients and visitors in our hospital. Our trained officers provide around-the-clock security for the hospital and medical office building, parking structures, and grounds on our 32-acre campus. In addition to the security staff, other hospital staff and volunteers can help you meet your safety and security needs.

If you have any questions or concerns about security, please feel free to call Security at extension 62032. From outside the hospital, call 503-216-2032.

Providence St. Vincent Medical Center has a lock up policy which will secure the hospital from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. each night.

Highlights of this policy include:

  • East Pavilion and main entrances are locked manually each night from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
  • Knight Pavilion is open 24/7 - with Security Department personnel to check-in visitors between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m.
  • ED is open 24/7 – with the Security Department increasing presence and conducting more rounds
  • The Lower Level north parking entrance is accessible with a security badge swipe

Parking

Parking is free and available 24-hours a day, seven days a week. Please lock your car. Also, each of the hospital’s parking structures is clearly marked with a color bar and number or letter code for easy reference; please try to make a mental note of these before leaving the parking lot.

If you have trouble finding your vehicle, a security officer will be happy to help you locate it. Security officers also are available to escort you and your visitors to your vehicles 24-hours a day, and our officers are happy to help you jump-start a dead car battery or unlock your vehicle if you accidentally leave your keys inside.

If you drove yourself to the hospital and will be staying a few days, call Security once you have settled in, and advise them of your vehicle’s make, model, color, license plate number, and location, so they can keep an eye on it for you. Call Security at ext. 62032; outside the hospital, dial 503-216-2032.

Lost Items

If you lose something during your stay at Providence St. Vincent, please notify your nurse immediately and we will make every effort to help you find it. Unclaimed articles are turned in to our Security department, where they are kept for 60 days.

To inquire about lost articles, please call Security at ext. 62032. Outside the hospital, call 503- 216-2032.

Personal Items

You can help keep your personal belongings secure by doing the following:

  • Keep no more than $10 in your room
  • Place your wallet or purse in the hospital safe
  • Send credit cards home with family, or secure them in the hospital safe
  • Leave jewelry and other valuables at home
  • If you would like assistance in storing and retrieving your personal items from the hospital safe, ask your nurse

Check your room before you leave to make sure you have gathered all your personal belongings. If you are missing something, report the loss to your nurse immediately.

Safety Drills

Our JCAHO (Joint Commission on Accreditation of Health Care Organizations) hospital accreditation requires that our staff be well-educated and practiced on safety issues. Our Security department regularly conducts fire safety and crime prevention programs and drills for staff members. Your nurse will let you know if any alarms you hear indicate an actual emergency.

Monitoring System

Closed-circuit television cameras are installed throughout the facility to help with our campus-wide patrol efforts to keep parking areas and buildings as safe as possible.

Precautions for New Patients

Please take time to get to know the staff members who are caring for you and your baby, and be certain of the identity of anyone who asks to take your baby from the room. All hospital staff wear photo identification with the Providence St. Vincent logo clearly visible. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the Security department.
