A Healthier Future: Healthy Communities Depend on a Healthy Planet

Patti Payne interviews Beth Schenk, chief environmental stewardship officer for Providence, about the initiatives Providence is undertaking to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, minimize landfill waste, use food resources wisely, improve energy efficiency, prepare for extreme weather events, and collaborate to lead environmental stewardship efforts at the national level.

Health care makes up 8.5% of our nation’s annual greenhouse gas emissions, and Providence takes this seriously because such pollution directly harms health. Providence is deeply concerned about the negative impacts of climate change, toxic chemicals, biodiversity loss, and other environmental issues on health.

That’s why Providence is working to be part of the solution on both fronts — by decreasing contributions to pollution and addressing the health problems pollution causes. Tune in to Patti and Beth’s conversation to discover how Providence’s “WE ACT” framework is making a difference.
