Providence updates mediators - all eight hospitals ready to begin scheduling negotiations

Providence informed federal mediators today that all eight of our hospital ministries – including our largest hospitals in Oregon, Providence Portland and Providence St. Vincent – are now ready to discuss resuming mediated negotiations with Oregon Nurses Association teams. It’s our understanding the mediators have been in conversation with union leaders, and we eagerly await their response.

The preparations we made in advance, and the commitment of our hospital leadership teams to ensuring a smooth transition to our replacement work force, along with the unprecedented number of ONA-represented nurses who have chosen to work, has brought us to a position where we can resume bargaining at all tables.

As mentioned earlier, Providence has already been prepared to negotiate with the hospitalist physicians at Providence St. Vincent during the strike. We’ve also negotiated with the two units – nurses and physicians/providers – at Providence Women’s Clinic.

More than 600 ONA-represented nurses have chosen to work – a rate that is nearly 400% higher than in previous strikes.
