The Power of Our Patient Navigators

As part of our innovative approach to managing care, you will be partnered with a patient navigator who coordinates appointments across specialties, verifies insurance and helps you access any specialty care or diagnostic and imaging needs.

Acting as your personal advocate, this patient navigator will become an integral part of your health care journey.

All the Health Care You Need in One Place

Designed by women, for women, Providence Saint John’s Women’s Health & Wellness Institute is a comprehensive hub for mental and physical health, education, awareness and disease management prevention.

Our goal is to communicate with your entire health care team – whether it’s your primary care doctor or a group of specialists – to ensure that you’ve got all the right resources at exactly the right time. By opening these lines of communication and connection, we aim to revolutionize the way that women access and receive care.

The Services Available to You

We promote an integrative, multidisciplinary treatment approach towards coordinating every aspect of your care. This includes well-women exams, gynecology and obstetrics, screenings, imaging and, when necessary, surgical care. Our specialists and physicians diagnose and treat the conditions that affect both your physical and emotional well-being, in addition to providing preventative care.

Through our programs at the Women’s Health & Wellness Institute, you gain access to the services available across every location at Providence Saint John’s. We’ve designed these programs to accommodate the medical needs of all women and ensure each woman is seen and treated as a whole person – not just a symptom or condition.

Focused on Women-Centric Research

Historically, women have been underrepresented in clinical trials. For example, heart disease is the leading cause of death for women. Even though cardiovascular health should be a critical area of research for women’s care, women’s participation in those trials remains low.

This imbalance has led to treatments that might not fully address women’s unique needs. We are committed to overcoming this gender bias through ongoing research and clinical trials that address women's distinct medical requirements.

A Better Standard of Care for Women

“Truly addressing women’s health and wellness requires a complete restructuring and rethinking of how we in the medical profession respond to the biological journey of every woman. Providence Saint John’s Women’s Health & Wellness Institute is set up to not only carry the patient through the disease process, but also restore her to wellness.”

Dr. Tiffany Grunwald, MD, FACS

“Our patient navigators serve as a portal to the delivery of integrated care within the wider community. They provide easy access to every physician and surgeon who cares for women at Providence Saint John’s.”

Joni Chroman

“We will enhance our commitment to excellence in women’s health by pioneering research and education, leading to revolutionary clinical care.”

Frequently Asked Questions

That’s great. Our goal at the Providence Saint John’s Women’s Health & Wellness Institute isn’t to replace your primary care provider, or any of your specialists, but to become an extension of your health care team. We communicate and work together to ensure that you’re receiving all the care that you need along each step of your health and wellness journey.

For example, if you come to us for physical therapy, your patient navigator will also send reminders to the rest of your care team that it’s time for a blood pressure screening, colonoscopy, mammogram or other relevant tests. We ensure that you’re treated as a whole person, instead of treating one specific issue or symptom.

However, if you don’t know where to go to receive the additional care you need, we’ll always find the right resources for you within the Women’s Health & Wellness Institute or the broader services of Providence Saint John’s Health Center.

In short, we’re here for what you need.

Every woman’s body is unique, and bodies can be complicated. At the Providence Saint John’s Women’s Health & Wellness Institute, our multidisciplinary care teams work side by side, shoulder to shoulder, alongside other physicians. They discuss patient cases, different perspectives and the potential for more innovative treatments to help patients receive the right care at exactly the right time.

This type of care is transformative. When you become part of our community, suddenly you have access to an amazing number of physicians, across different specialties, committed to showing up and working together to provide an individualized treatment plan to every patient that comes through our doors.

Additionally, these benefits extend beyond Providence Saint John’s patients. Research is an integral part of the Providence vision – health for a better world. These multidisciplinary care teams collaborate on many research projects. They are dedicated to understanding diseases, developing therapies, innovating minimally invasive solutions and discovering cures that will ultimately benefit all women and proactively contribute to the betterment of women’s health.

A patient navigator, sometimes called a care navigator, will be assigned to you before your first appointment. They will educate and guide you based on your personal physical and mental health concerns, risks and wellness needs, so that you can make informed decisions about your health care. They are your supporters and advocates, here to provide support and reassurance – whether that's an occasional conversation or more regular check-ins.

Your navigator can coordinate and schedule appointments, speak directly with your primary care physician, provide support to lower your stress and help you access all the resources that you need.

That’s a great question. The Institute represents all the combined resources dedicated to women’s health across our hospital, Providence Saint John’s Health Center. Within the Institute, you can celebrate and track your pregnancy, keep up with mammograms and pelvic exams and find solutions for any menopausal issues.

The Center is one department within the Institute; it is a 7,000-square-foot clinical space, dedicated to treating women in a calm, spa-like setting that promotes comfort and healing. It’s specifically designed to be a moment of respite from typical health care settings. For example, whether you just had a baby at McAlister Maternal & Newborn Services or were treated at Gynecologic Oncology Center, you can come to the Center for pelvic floor therapy and receive much-needed emotional support with a therapist. Women of all ages can visit and attend educational health classes run by our physicians to learn more about prevention, early detection and all the resources available for specific health challenges that women throughout the different stages of life.

Best of all, since the Center is directly connected to the Institute, we always collaborate directly with the rest of your care team and find the right resources for you.
