Patient having chest pain

If you are experiencing a life-threatening emergency, please call 911.

When sudden and severe illnesses afflict you and your family, Mission Hospital’s Laguna Beach Emergency Department is ready to help 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Our board-certified ER doctors, nurses and specialty caregivers are trained and equipped to offer top quality emergency medical care at a moment’s notice.

From heart attacks to broken bones, our Laguna Beach Emergency Department is fully equipped with highly trained doctors and leading medical technologies to treat illnesses and injuries.

A special note on when to use emergency care

It is important for patients to understand that Emergency Departments are for true emergencies. If you don’t know whether your emergency is life-threatening or not, take the safe approach and come in. However, if you don’t need this high level of care, consider options such as more affordable urgent care or a visit to your general practice physician.

About our physicians

The hospital has contracted with Mission Viejo Emergency Medical Associates to provide physician services in the Emergency Department. These physicians are independent contractors, not employees of the hospital, who contract separately with healthcare insurers and healthcare plans. As a result, they may not be in the same networks as the hospital. If you have any questions regarding whether these physicians are covered by your insurance, you should contact your insurance provider directly. To contact the ER group contracted to our hospital, please call 949-364-1400 ext. 7476.

A new ED experience

Emergency departments wait times are unpredictable. At Mission Hospital Laguna Beach we publish our wait times online – in real time – and give you a chance to “get in line” before you arrive in order to make the most of your personal time.

Paramedic receiving center

Mission Hospital Laguna Beach is certified as a paramedic receiving center. This means we have access to Advanced Life Support and other leading medical technologies that allow us to safely transport critical cases to Mission Hospital Mission Viejo and provide the holistic care each patient deserves.

Community emergency care

Whether you require care from our Laguna Beach or Mission Viejo site, our Emergency Department works closely with paramedics out in the field to direct patients to the most appropriate hospital.

Our community emergency care department helps us provide exceptional medical guidance in an emergency situation. It is also designated as receiving center that evaluates patients for further treatment, as well as a training site for new paramedics.

Many individuals are often unsure whether a situation rises to the level of emergency. We ask that if you or a loved one are experiencing one of the following conditions, please call 911 immediately:

  • Bloody diarrhea with weakness
  • Chest pain
  • Coma (unresponsive victim)
