Project Nurture
Project Nurture provides prenatal care and harm reduction-focused substance use treatment strategies and support for individuals at any stage of pregnancy. Our hope is to engage pregnant people in services as early in their pregnancy as possible. Services extend past pregnancy to include caring for parents and their infants for up to a year postpartum.
Our goals are centered around the people we serve, with our primary focus on providing holistic, comprehensive wrap-around care, instilling hope and supporting individuals in achieving their personal goals.
We hope to:
- Engage and build trust
- Meet patients where they are at
- Improve emotional and physical health
- Support access to low-barrier addiction care
- Support stability
- Break intergenerational cycles of trauma
- Maintain united, thriving families

Services Offered
Through our comprehensive team, we provide:
- Peer support
- Case management
- Obstetrics
- Primary care
- Medication-based treatment for substance use disorders
- Counseling and Advocacy services throughout the pregnancy, delivery and postpartum experiences
Our program is centered within Providence Medical Group - Milwaukie as a component of the Family Medicine Residency Program. Our team approaches care from a harm-reduction frame, centered in non-judgmental openness. We strive to meet our patients where they are at - recognizing that addiction and substance use are challenging experiences necessitating a trauma-informed, compassionate approach to treatment. We work hard to come alongside our pregnant patients in the service of helping them meet their personal health care goals.
What to expect
Project Nurture is structured in a way to support participants in getting their health care needs met in a streamlined manner. Treatment groups occur primarily on Mondays. Our pregnant patients should expect a holistic approach to their health care experience while in clinic. During these group visits, patients will receive their OB and addiction medicine-related care, as well as robust support from a Peer Recovery Mentor, Substance use Counselor and Case Manager
In addition to supporting expecting parents with their medical care, the team is highly invested in supporting our patients in addressing psychosocial stability and connecting individuals with community-based resources and supports to achieve their personal goals. This includes collaboratively partnering with individuals engaged with the Department of human services by supporting DHS meeting preparation, developing stability plans and addressing challenges or barriers that an individual may be experiencing.
