Providence Medford Medical Center provides rapid and safe heart attack care with a median time of opening up a blocked artery within 53 minutes for STEMI (heart attack) patients.
We are ready to meet the emergency needs of heart and vascular patients in southern Oregon. For most patients, we can do these emergency procedures through the wrist, instead of the groin, to access the blocked cardiac artery. This is a safer procedure, with less complications and less discomfort, and allows for earlier mobilization.
If you or a loved one experiences heart attack symptoms, ask EMS personnel to head to the nearest STEMI-capable hospital.
Providence Medford Medical Center is one of approximately 10 percent of hospitals in the United States routinely offering an advanced cardiac catheterization procedure known as radial artery catheterization.
In years past, the femoral artery was a logical choice for catheterization because its large size could accommodate various sizes of catheters, balloons and stents. However, modern equipment has become smaller and less invasive.
Radial catheterization provides an innovative approach by inserting the catheter through the radial artery in the wrist. It is a more challenging procedure that requires significant training, increased precision and state-of-the-art technology. However, it is considered the top choice for faster recovery, immediate mobility, fewer complications from bleeding, and reduced patient stress and discomfort.
