About Thermal Ablation

Thermal ablation is a minimally invasive procedure that destroys, or ablates, cancer cells, tumors and other abnormal or damaged tissue – including cardiac cells. In addition to being the preferred method of treatment for some cancer patients, cardiac specialists may also recommend the procedure for heart patients with arrhythmias.

Benefits

Patients who undergo thermal ablation typically experience shorter recovery times and fewer complications than patients who undergo open surgery. Thermal ablation is performed under mild sedation and patients typically return home the same day.

Conditions Treated with Thermal Ablation

Thermal ablation is a treatment method suitable for most, but not all, types of cancer. It is also effective in treating irregular heartbeats, or types of arrhythmias, including:

  • SVT (supraventricular tachycardia)
  • VT (ventricular tachycardia)
  • WPW (Wolff-Parkinson-White) Syndrome

Thermal Ablation Treatments We Offer

We perform multiple types of thermal ablation, including:

  • Cryoablation (cryosurgery or cryotherapy)
  • Microwave ablation
  • PVP (photoselective vaporization of the prostate)
  • RFA (radiofrequency ablation)
  • Thermal balloon ablation
