Palliative Surgery
At Providence, we believe in comfort and compassion during times of need. Our goal is to help patients enjoy life as much as possible and remedy the pains and stresses that come with serious illness.
To do this, we offer palliative surgeries designed to treat pain and symptoms of serious and life-threatening illnesses. Doing so helps us uniquely support each patient, helping control and relieve their symptoms.
Palliative surgery is surgery designed to help relieve symptoms of incurable diseases. There are many different types of palliative surgeries, most of which are used to remedy the discomfort of symptoms of serious and chronic conditions such as:
- Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS)
- Alzheimer's disease
- Cancer
- Cardiac disease, such as congestive heart failure (CHF)
- Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
- Kidney failure
- Parkinson's disease
- Dementia
- Stroke
Palliative surgery comes in many forms and is often used to help ease the uncomfortable symptoms of advanced stage cancer.
Most palliative surgeries involve the catheters or stents. Surgeons uses these devices to drain or unblock bile that has built up because of cancerous tumors.
Palliative surgeries are surgical operations like any other. The different types of surgeries carry their own individual risks. These include infection, blood clots, possible nerve damage, as well as postoperative pain.
Our mission at Providence is to help you cope with symptoms of serious diseases. We do so by prioritizing comfort and quality of life.
