Intensive Care (ICU)
Designed for patients who suffer from critical diseases, illnesses and conditions, Providence’s intensive care units provide the comprehensive progress monitoring and extensive treatments needed in vital situations.
There are many conditions that warrant stays in intensive care, such as severe infections, respiratory distress, trauma, stroke and congestive heart failure. Intensive care is also an essential component of post-procedural care, providing essential treatment to patients after major operations such as open-heart surgery, gastric bypass surgery or tumor removal.
Throughout the Providence, intensive care physicians, known as intensivists, provide experienced and thoughtful care. Their multidisciplinary approach includes consultations and collaboration with therapists who specialize in physical, occupational and respiratory health, as well as speech/language pathologists and specially trained registered nurses.
At Providence, we understand that being admitted to an intensive care unit can a stressful and frightening time. Should you or a loved one find yourself requiring the services of an intensive care unit, our caregivers and staff will work to create as peaceful and calm an environment as possible.
