Dr. Mila Sprouse joins Providence Swedish North Puget Sound as Chief Nursing Officer
In her new role, Sprouse leads nursing at Providence Regional Medical Center Everett, Swedish Edmonds and Swedish Mill creek and the nearly 3,000 nurses across the service area.

Dr. Mila Sprouse, EdD, MSN, RN, CCRN, NE-BC, has joined Providence Swedish as the new North Puget Sound chief nursing officer. In her new role, Dr. Sprouse will oversee nursing at Providence Regional Medical Center in Everett, Wash., Swedish Edmonds and Swedish Mill Creek and the nearly 3,000 nurses providing compassionate care to communities across Snohomish County.
As a seasoned nurse executive leader, Dr. Sprouse brings a wealth of experience, compassion, and leadership to the team. Her proven record of enhancing patient care, relationship building, and spearheading innovative health care initiatives made her the ideal candidate to lead nursing in North Puget Sound.

Dr. Sprouse joins Providence Swedish from Virginia Mason Medical Center in Seattle where she served as vice president, chief nursing officer. There she was responsible for transforming the nursing leadership team into a cohesive, high-functioning group providing quality and safe care. Their efforts resulted in decreased hospital-acquired infection and length of stay, improved patient experience, and reduced vacancy and turnover rates.
Prior to VM, Dr. Sprouse served as vice president of patient care services at Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center in Houston, Texas where she built a nationally recognized nursing team which significantly reduced length of stay, vacancy and turnover rates, while enhancing patient safety and care outcomes, increasing access to care, and improved acuity staffing.
Dr. Sprouse holds two degrees from Grand Canyon University: A Doctor of Education (EdD) in organizational leadership and health care administration, and a Master of Science in Nursing. As an undergraduate at Colegio San Agustin in the Philippines, Dr. Sprouse received a full-academic scholarship which made it possible for her to pursue an education despite growing up extremely poor. As a result of these experiences, Dr. Sprouse has a passion for giving back to the nursing profession and to the community.
Dr. Sprouse, who was recently recognized as one of Becker’s Healthcare Review’s 213 CNOs to Know, is the founder of the Philippine Nurses Association Emerald City and serves as the organization’s first president. She is the past president of the Philippine Nurses Association North Houston and a former member of the Philippine Nurses Association of America Executive Board. She is also the past president of the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN), North Harris Montgomery County Chapter, a national AACN ambassador, an AACN abstract research and grant reviewer, and an AACN chapter advisor for Texas and Oklahoma.
Dr. Sprouse and her husband Rob reside in Seattle. Together they have two adult children, Ben and Claire, and a “miracle” grandson named Milo. In her spare time, Dr. Sprouse enjoys stand-up paddleboarding, exploring the area, coaching and mentoring, and reading.
