Providence breaks ground for new affordable housing facility in Redmond, WA

Providence Supportive Housing breaks ground today on a new 75-unit affordable housing development in downtown Redmond. Named Providence John Gabriel House, the facility will provide quality, affordable housing and services coordination for adults age 62 and older.

Providence John Gabriel House will consist of studios, one- and two-bedroom apartments. Residents will also have access to a community room, a TV lounge, a library and an outdoor terrace. Watch a video of the groundbreaking ceremony (courtesy of the City of Redmond).

“The demand for affordable senior housing throughout King County is growing at a rapid rate,” said Tim Zaricznyj, director of Providence Supportive Housing. “Sadly, there are many older adults on fixed incomes who struggle to afford safe and appropriate housing, food, medication and health care.”

The project is located in the heart of downtown Redmond across the street from the Redmond Senior Center, close to the Redmond Regional Library and the Redmond Transit Center.

Providence John Gabriel House will also include a PACE (Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly) center on the ground floor. Providence ElderPlace Redmond will be the fourth PACE center in King County. It will provide medical care and social services to seniors who qualify to live in a nursing home and choose to continue to live in the community. The PACE center will house a full medical clinic with a geriatrician, a registered nurse, an interdisciplinary team of caregivers including physical and occupational therapists and social workers, in addition to offering social programs. Providence ElderPlace serves individuals living in their own homes, with family members or in contracted housing.

“Providence John Gabriel House ensures some of our most vulnerable neighbors will have a safe and stable place to call home,” said Zaricznyj. “But more importantly, they’ll be part of a vibrant community and have access to everything they need to maintain stability and independence as they age in place.”

The project is made possible through financial support from the City of Redmond, Providence Health & Services, the east King County jurisdictions that are members of A Regional Coalition for Housing (ARCH), King County Department of Community and Human Services, King County Housing Authority and the Washington State Housing Finance Commission.

Applications will be available to prospective residents in the summer 2016. Individuals must meet certain income qualifications in order to submit an application for housing. Providence John Gabriel House is slated to open in the fall of 2016.
