Providence and Optum Unsuccessful In re-Negotiating Contract
After several months of negotiations Providence and Optum have been unable to agree on acceptable terms for renewal with Providence Los Angeles hospitals. These Los Angeles hospitals include Providence Holy Cross Medical Center, Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center (Burbank), Providence Cedars-Sinai Tarzana Medical Center, Providence Saint John's Health Center, Providence Little Company of Mary Medical Center, Torrance and San Pedro.
If we are still unable to reach an agreement with Optum, Providence Los Angeles hospitals will be considered out of network starting April 1, 2024, for HMO plans (commercial and Medicare) that use Optum’s provider network.
Here’s what this means if you are enrolled in an HMO plan and your PCP is with Optum.
- If you continue to have an Optum PCP, Optum will direct you to a non-Providence facility for in-patient or out-patient care.
- If you would like to access Providence facilities beginning April 1, 2024, you can do so by changing your Optum PCP to a PCP who is part of Providence such as Providence Facey Medical Group, Providence Axminster Medical Group or Providence Saint John’s Physician Partners.
What you can do:
- Consider changing to a PCP who is not part of Optum by calling the customer service phone number that can be found on your insurance ID card. This will enable you to continue accessing Providence hospitals.
