If you have a skin cancer diagnosis, we will partner with you to find the best course of treatment. Among all types of cancers, cancers of the skin are most common, and they are nearly always cured when diagnosed early and treated. So it's important to see your doctor if you have changes in your skin.
Dr. Erin Allen is a highly experienced and skilled Mohs surgeon. She performs the dual role as both surgeon and pathologist, removing layers of cancerous skin and microscopically examining them until only cancer-free tissue remains. Dr. Allen then repairs the wound for the best cosmetic and functional result. This can involve reconstructive surgery, and our dermatologists have extensive experience in the latest techniques.
Mohs surgery is an outpatient procedure, performed in the state-of-the-art surgical suite. Mohs micrographic surgery is an excellent treatment option. This precise surgical technique is the most effective treatment for most types of skin cancer and has a very high cure rate.
Dr. Allen performs more than 1,600 Mohs surgeries each year to remove basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma and melanoma. In addition, she is certified by the American College of Mohs Surgery (ACMS). While all board-certified dermatologists can perform Mohs surgery, only members of the ACMS have undergone additional rigorous training through a fellowship program. This includes extensive work in removing skin cancer, examining skin tissue for cancer and reconstructive surgery for repairing the wound.
Early diagnosis of a skin condition is key to effective treatment which is why we encourage all new patients to have a full-body skin evaluation to assess sun damage and skin health.
We will take your medical history and do a comprehensive, systematic exam of your skin while ensuring your comfort and modesty. With a thorough baseline skin examination, your dermatologist can identify any concerning moles, growths, lesions or other skin conditions that can then be monitored, treated or removed.
Once we establish a baseline skin evaluation, we regularly monitor any skin changes as part of our long-term relationship with you in order to provide consistent, superior care and manage skin conditions effectively.
