History

In the mid-1980s a group of concerned citizens and medical professionals recognized the absence of high-quality end-of-life care in our region. They met in the home of Dr. O.W. English and began plans to meet that need.

Hospice of Lubbock – the only nonprofit hospice in the Lubbock area – was the first hospice care provider on the South Plains, opening our doors in 1987. In 1999, we became affiliated with Covenant Health. We continue to serve 19 counties as the only provider of adult and pediatric end-of-life care.

We have cared for more than 10,000 patients since 1987 and provide services to approximately 700 patients and their families annually. Nearly 5-10 percent of our patient care is covered by charitable donations. No patient has, nor will ever, be denied services because of lack of insurance or the inability to pay for hospice services.

Hospice of Lubbock has served more than 500 veteran patients since 2013, and achieved 4 Star Level with the We Honor Veterans Organization in 2015.
