About Brian F. Schmidt

Dr. Brian Schmidt is a general and trauma surgeon who has been practicing in Santa Rosa since 1989. Dr. Schmidt grew up in Santa Rosa where his father was an anesthesiologist. He completed his undergraduate degree at UC Berkeley in biochemistry and shortly after attended medical school at USC. He completed a 6-year residency at UC Davis in general surgery and started his practice specializing in vascular, transplant, general and trauma surgery. Dr. Schmidt helped start the laparoscopic program at Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital as well as the trauma service which is now one of the busiest level 2 trauma centers in California. He continues to run the trauma service as the trauma medical director managing 70 doctors and over 3000 trauma patients per year at Memorial Hospital. Dr. Schmidt has been involved in the care center at Sonoma Raceway and started the development of Vellomed which supports cycling events in Sonoma County. He is married with 3 children and loves to stay active in his free time by hunting, fishing, skiing and traveling. He is on the board at the Green Center and supports the arts and music.
