About Dennis R. Holmes
Dr. Holmes is a dedicated breast surgeon and cancer researcher who recently held the position of Director of the Margie Petersen Breast Center at St. John’s Health Center. Formerly, Dr. Holmes held the positions of Chief Breast Surgeon and Medical Director of the Los Angeles Center for Women’s Health, and Chief Breast Cancer Surgeon, and Breast Cancer Research Committee Co-Chair at the University of Southern California (U.S.C.) Kenneth Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center.
FELLOWSHIP-TRAINED. Dr. Holmes is a 2003 graduate of the U.S.C. Breast Surgery Fellowship Training Program, one of most progressive breast surgery training programs in the U.S. Years later, he ascended to the position Program Chair and in the process had the privilege of supervising the training of over 30 dedicated breast surgeons. As evidence of his commitment to education, Dr. Holmes was selected to Chair the 2019 Annual Meeting of the American Society of Breast Surgeons, an annual educational meeting of over 3,000 breast surgeons.
LEADER. Dr. Holmes currently serves in the leadership of several national surgical societies and is a frequent lecturer at conferences worldwide. Dr. Holmes is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons; President of the TARGIT Collaborative Group (a national research and education organization in intraoperative radiotherapy); National Principal Investigator of the FROST Trial, a clinical trial evaluating the use of cryoablation (tumor freezing) instead of surgery for the treatment of early stage breast cancer; and serves and Principal or Co-investigator in several additional clinical trials.
INNOVATOR. Widely respected by colleagues for his innovative approach to breast cancer care, Dr. Holmes has distinguished himself by his pioneering work in oncoplastic surgery, intraoperative radiotherapy, cryoablation, genetic testing, neoadjuvant chemotherapy, lymph node-sparing surgery, and minimally-invasive breast surgery. However, what most distinguishes Dr. Holmes among breast surgeons is his high level of commitment to providing women with treatment options that suit their personal physical and emotional needs, while also providing the best possible cancer control.
