About Bob Yin
Bob Yin, MD is a board certified Orthopedic Surgeon and Sports Medicine Specialist. He is a proud member of the orthopedic department at St. Jude Heritage Medical Group and St. Jude Medical Center.
After graduating with honors with a degree in biology from M.I.T., Dr. Yin attended medical school at Columbia University. He completed orthopedic surgery residency at Columbia University Medical Center in New York City. Dr. Yin then completed his surgical Fellowship in Sports Medicine at Kerlan Jobe Orthopedic Clinic in Los Angeles, where he served as an Assistant Team Physician to the LA Lakers, Dodgers, and Kings.
In his practice of orthopedic surgery, Dr. Yin’s primary goal is to provide the highest quality, personalized care to each patient so that they can return to work and recreational activities with minimal pain and maximum function. He strives to achieve excellent patient outcomes through individualized care. He has experience in treating athletes of all ages and abilities, from little leaguers and weekend warriors to the elite collegiate athlete. Dr. Yin is also particularly interested in treating patients with chronic joint conditions, such as arthritis, who may need more advanced surgeries such as joint replacement.
Dr. Yin’s approach is to provide conservative, non-surgical treatment if this has a reasonable chance of success. When surgery becomes appropriate, Dr. Yin offers surgical procedures of the shoulder, knee, and hip. These include total knee replacement, knee ligament reconstruction (ACL), knee meniscus procedures, shoulder instability repair, shoulder rotator cuff repair, hip replacement, and hip arthroscopy.
Dr. Yin has a special interest in treating conditions affecting the hip joint. He is formally trained in arthroscopy of the hip, which is a minimally-invasive procedure used to treat both acute and chronic hip injuries in younger patients who do not wish to consider hip replacement. For older patients with more severe hip disease, Dr. Yin will perform total hip replacement, including Direct Anterior total hip replacement.
When he is not in the hospital or clinic, Dr. Yin enjoys volunteering as the team physician for Canyon High School in Anaheim, where he is the sideline physician at home varsity football games. He lives in north Orange County with his wife and two children. In his free time, he enjoys playing golf, cooking, and spending time with his family.
