About Eric J. Oglesbee
As a board-certified child and adolescent psychologist, Dr. Oglesbee works as part of a team to evaluate children for possible neurodevelopmental conditions, such as autism. Evaluation and support offer “a powerful opportunity to affect a child’s developmental trajectory in a positive way,” he says. “Small changes at a young age can have a huge impact as a child grows and becomes an adult.”
Dr. Oglesbee became interested in psychology while working in a pain clinic, where he saw the role that cognition plays in interpreting pain. Later, as a military psychologist stationed overseas, he saw large numbers of children in military families who had limited access to mental health services, and decided that child psychology was where he wanted to place his focus.
A graduate of The Ohio State University, Dr. Oglesbee earned his doctorate in psychology at Pacific University. He completed his internship at the Portland State University Student Counseling Center and his residency with the United States Air Force. He also completed a fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School. He has specialized training in cognitive and behavioral therapy and in neurodevelopmental evaluation.
During his time as an Air Force psychologist, Dr. Oglesbee had the good fortune to live around the world, in Europe and Asia. He still loves to travel and explore new cultures – and food! He also enjoys hiking, anything Studio Ghibli (a Japanese animation studio), and supporting the Portland Thorns.
