About Amanda M. Kallunki
Growing up in a small Oregon town, Dr. Kallunki noted a striking need for mental health services in her rural community, where severe stigma often resulted in suicides, hospitalizations and substance use. These foundational experiences led her to become a psychologist.
In her practice, she addresses suffering as a normal part of life and helps people to lessen their struggles, both by changing their relationships with thoughts, feelings, physical sensations and memories, and by increasing their engagement with their personal values. “My treatment focus often promotes emotional acceptance, mindfulness practice, and values-directed activities to help people achieve change,” she says.
Dr. Kallunki strives to be person-centered in every encounter. “I approach each patient with empathy, curiosity, and respect for individual, cultural and diversity considerations,” she says, “and I appreciate and welcome feedback.”
A board-certified psychologist, Dr. Kallunki has special training in lifespan development, trauma-informed care and substance-use treatment. She graduated from Portland State University and completed her doctorate in psychology at Pacific University, followed by an internship, residency and fellowship with Cherokee Health Systems in Knoxville, Tenn.
Away from the office, she enjoys being active and outdoors.
