About Leela R. Magavi
Dr. Magavi is a native Californian and Hopkins-trained psychiatrist committed to providing compassionate, evidence-based care to individuals of all cultural, political, religious, sexual and socioeconomic backgrounds. Dr. Magavi is a board certified adult psychiatrist and board certified child and adolescent psychiatrist. She completed her adult psychiatry residency at Georgetown University Hospital, during which time she also had the invaluable experience of caring for veterans at the Washington, D.C. VA. As a resident, she was awarded the String of Pearls teaching award. She subsequently completed her child psychiatry fellowship at Johns Hopkins Hospital, where she served as the chief fellow and published a manuscript on transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS).
Dr. Magavi strives to create a safe, comfortable atmosphere for patients and their families in their journey toward recovery. She has a holistic approach and integrates various treatment modalities (lifestyle changes, including mindfulness and meditation, pharmacological agents, as well as individual, couples and family therapy) to provide comprehensive, effective care. She enjoys working with people of all ages (pediatric, adult, geriatric) with various concerns including but not limited to ADHD, anxiety (GAD, PTSD, OCD, panic disorder, separation anxiety), depression, bipolar disorder, postpartum illnesses, sleep disorders and schizophrenia. She partners with her clients and individualizes treatment depending on each client’s unique life story and goals to maximize their quality of life.
In her free time, Dr. Magavi enjoys spending time with her loved ones, trying different cuisines, watching movies, and embracing the beauty and diversity of California. She looks forward to helping as many individuals as possible and playing her part in eliminating the stigma surrounding mental health.
