About Deven Khosla
Dr. Deven Khosla has an extraordinary level of experience in spine and neurosurgery. He is an acclaimed board-certified neurosurgeon in Los Angeles who has been practicing advanced spine and neurological treatments since 2001, in both the hospital and trauma center settings.
A volunteer experience in the Los Angeles County USC Emergency room when he was 18 years old is what first inspired Dr. Khosla to pursue a career as a surgeon. After observing the anatomy and methodical nature of the process used by the doctor in helping a knife wound victim, he knew that he wanted to pursue medicine and surgery. After graduating from UC Davis, he studied medicine in Chicago at Loyola University Medical Center and also completed a rigorous Neurosurgery training program there. He then was in private practice in a large group in Northern Nevada for 15 years and then at Los Angeles Kaiser Permanente Medical center for the past 3 years.
As a Neurosurgeon, he has a unique perspective in the treatment of spine and brain conditions as to how the nerves are affecting a patient’s quality of life. He feels he is privileged to have the opportunity to help people get back to doing the activities they love in their lives.
Dr. Khosla has extensive experience with a range of procedures and is known for performing surgeries efficiently and with meticulous care, leading to a low rate of complications. The health benefit of his ability to perform complex surgeries quickly lowers the time spent under anesthesia and the potential for blood loss. Early mobilization and reduction of risk for blood clots is emphasized. Most of his patients do not need a urinary Foley catheter, with the added benefit of reducing the risk of a patient developing a urinary infection after surgery.
Dr. Khosla focuses on excellence in patient care and achieving the most positive surgical outcomes. He employs a collaborative approach with colleagues and hospitals. He is proud to have the opportunity to train medical students and neurosurgery residents on the use of minimally invasive surgical techniques, the correction of adult scoliosis and spinal deformities, and treating spinal tumors.
Over the years, Dr. Khosla states he has been blessed to help the less fortunate in many ways. He has been to Ethiopia and plans additional mission trips to help those in need. Throughout his career he has cared for many from all walks of life.
Dr. Khosla’s family immigrated to the United States from India in 1982 when he was 11 years old. He grew up in Alhambra and East Los Angeles and now lives in Santa Monica with his wife and has three children. As a family, the Khoslas feel strongly that people of all walks of life need a way to have a helping hand when they need it. His practice’s mission is to take this philosophy of care and provide an inclusive, respectful, patient centered experience for our whole community regardless of race, religion, ethnicity, socio-economic background, gender, or sexual orientation. It is this level of compassion and unique perspective of social consciousness that Dr. Khosla brings to each patient encounter.
