Sarah Dunaway, MS, SLP

“Providing children with a way to say their first words is magical,” says Sarah. She began working with people with communication challenges in 2007, and found it so rewarding that she decided to continue her education and become a certified speech language pathologist. “As a specialist in augmentative and alternative communication (AAC), my goal is to find a method of communication that is effective and successful for each child,” she says.

Sarah partners collaboratively with children and their families to help them reach their goals. She has extensive experience working with children with complex behavioral needs, and aims to be “as neuro-affirming as possible” in her work. “I believe that every person has the right to talk about the things that are important to them, and to be heard and respected by others,” she says.

Sarah earned her bachelor’s degree at Empire State University in New York, and her master’s degree at Portland State University. She completed her internship at Providence Children’s Development Institute.

In her free time, she enjoys trail running, hiking, playing board games and reading books.
