About Gregory L. Schumacher
Dr. Greg Schumacher was born in North Dakota and raised in Wisconsin. He attended the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado, where he earned a degree in Biology. He then returned to the Midwest for medical school, internship, and residency in orthopedic surgery, all at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. After his education was complete, the Air Force stationed him at Elmendorf Air Force Base in Anchorage, where he served nine years and developed a thriving practice in sports medicine and joint replacement. He left the service as a Lieutenant Colonel, veteran of the war in Iraq, and Elmendorf’s Chief of Orthopedic Surgery. During that time, he also worked at the Alaska Native Medical Center managing orthopedic trauma. In 2009, Dr. Schumacher joined Anchorage Fracture & Orthopedic Clinic where his practice continues to grow. His interest in sports medicine remains strong and he constantly strives to improve techniques for knee, shoulder, hip arthroscopy, ligament reconstruction, rotator cuff repair, and construction of shoulder instability. He takes special pride in his meticulous and compassionate approach to joint and ligament reconstruction. Dr. Schumacher has served as a team physician for the U.S. Ski Team since 2010. He is currently Head Team Physician for Nordic. Dr. Schumacher has spent a lifetime pursuing aerobic sports, which now serves him well as he chases his three children around the Nordic ski trails of Anchorage.
