About Rachael M. Carreno
Dr. Carreno decided to become a physician after witnessing her grandfather’s battle with cancer and being inspired by the relationships, education and communication that were fostered in the course of his care. Family medicine, she discovered, allows her to build strong relationships with her patients while exploring all of her passions, from women's health and obstetrics and gynecology to managing chronic conditions like hypertension and diabetes.
An empathetic physician, Dr. Carreno encourages her patients to feel open to bringing their concerns to her so they can work together on options and solutions. “Patient education is the cornerstone of self-advocacy,” she says. “Working as a team with my patients, my goal is to empower them to make informed choices that support their well-being and allow them to take charge of their health.”
Dr. Carreno completed her pre-professional studies and a Spanish degree at the University of Notre Dame before completing her doctoral degree at the Marian University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Indiana. She traveled to Florida for her internship at St. Petersburg General Hospital, and then returned to Indiana for her family medicine residency at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center.
Born and raised on the East Coast, Dr. Carreno is excited to set down roots in the Pacific Northwest. In her life outside of the office, she enjoys playing the piano and French horn, appreciating the arts –including live music – and hanging out with family, friends, and her cat, George. While Portuguese was her first language, today she speaks English and Spanish.

Dr. Carreno is the best doctor I've ever had. I'm so glad I found her. Before being under her care I wanted to move away from using Providence for my primary care but now I will stay as long as she is working. I look forward to appointments with her because I know all my questions and concerns will always be addressed.
