Hayley A. Hirt, CNM

Of all the joys of midwifery, Hayley’s favorites are getting to know families and building strong relationships with them. She chose her career, she explains, “because I love empowering people to understand their bodies.” In her partnership with patients, she emphasizes bodily autonomy and a health-at-every-size mindset. “The people I serve are the experts when it comes to their bodies,” she adds, “and I respect that.”

Hayley believes that pregnancy and birth are generally normal processes that require very little intervention. “My role is to be the guardian of normal,” she says, “but when interventions do become necessary, I appreciate having access to them.”

A graduate of the University of Vermont, Hayley earned her Doctor of Nursing Practice degree at Oregon Health and Science University.

In her free time, she enjoys being outdoors with her dog, as well as knitting, baking bread, and “generally being cozy.”
