About Nicholas T. Olney
A personal experience with ALS is what drew Dr. Nicholas Olney to the field of medicine. Following several years of working in biotech, Dr. Olney learned that his father had been diagnosed with ALS. He was inspired to study the disease and provide clinical care. "Being a caregiver for my father changed my life. Being selected as co-director of the Providence ALS Center is an honor." After receiving his medical degree at the University of California, San Francisco, Dr. Olney completed a neurology residency at the University of California, Los Angeles. Following his residency, Dr. Olney returned to UCSF to focus on neurodegenerative disease and research. "The first year of my fellowship, I was focused on dementia and imaging research. My final two years focused on ALS clinical care and spinal imaging research in ALS." In his spare time, Dr. Olney enjoys spending time with family and collecting records. He is excited about participating in outdoor activities in the Northwest like hiking and fishing.

They are knowledgeable, caring, patient and courteous staff who are versed in my situation and medical records at every appointment.
Providence Patient
I appreciate that Dr. Olney listens and provides feedback and ultimately takes into consideration and proceeds with what his patient (me) needs and wants. This is what good doctors do and there are so few good doctors out there. Also with regard to referring people to a provider or organization, I typically do not do that, ever. I said I would in this survey because if I knew someone had ALS and needed a provider, going to see Dr. Olney at the ALS clinic is what I would recommend to them.
Providence Patient
Dr. Olney thought to include me in an important clinical trial and enroll me in a national registry.
