About Liberato Mukul
“I treat patients as if they were a family member. I really want patients to feel that I was attentive, compassionate, and validated their experiences,” says Liberato Mukul, MD, gynecologist with Providence Women’s Clinic-Reed’s Crossing. Dr. Mukul enjoys assisting people throughout their entire reproductive life. He has provided pregnancy care in the past and now focuses exclusively on gynecology. “A uniqueness of gynecology is there is so much that goes into helping people navigate their health care that is non-medical. I try to take in everything that’s affecting a person – social, emotional and psychological – and incorporate those things into helping patients make decisions about their care. “The most-important role is to listen and help patients navigate to where they want to be. I enjoy helping people make the right decisions for their health needs. It’s a partnership in terms of how we get to the desired outcome. I love the ability to individualize a plan based on a patient’s needs.” Dr. Mukul provides comprehensive gynecologic care, including minimally invasive gynecologic surgery (including robotic surgery), endometriosis, polycystic ovary disease, pelvic pain, fibroids, pelvic masses, menopause management, fertility sparing surgical and medical options, and gynecologic ultrasound. He is board certified with a focused practice in gynecologic surgery from the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. In addition to caring for patients, Dr. Mukul serves as Providence’s regional gynecology medical director. In this role, Dr. Mukul provides leadership for gynecologic services in the inpatient, outpatient and ambulatory settings. This includes leading activities and efforts to support the continuous improvement of clinical care, operational workflows, fiscal performance, and patient and staff satisfaction. He also currently serves as an associate professor of OB/GYN at Oregon Health & Science University and is chair of the Gynecology Department at Providence St. Vincent Medical Center. Dr. Mukul was the first fellowship-trained minimally invasive gynecologic surgeon in the Portland area. Prior to joining Providence, Dr. Mukul practiced at Women’s Healthcare Associates, Northwest Gynecology Center, since 2008. He served as WHA’s Director of Gynecology from 2016-2020. Earlier in his career, Dr. Mukul was an assistant professor at the University of Colorado Health Sciences and member of The Permanente Medical Group in Northern California. He received his medical degree from the University of Southern California School of Medicine. He went on to complete an OB-GYN residency at Kaiser Foundation Hospital in San Francisco, Calif., and an American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists fellowship in minimally invasive gynecology surgery at Medical College of Wisconsin/Reproductive Specialty Center. Dr. Mukul lives in Portland with his wife and two children. He loves the camaraderie found within the community and was named as one of Portland Monthly’s Top Doctors in 2012. Dr. Mukul is fluent in Spanish.
