About Jan Hua
Being a physician perfectly bridges Dr. Hua’s love of science and her love of people. “It allows me to engage my mind and to work with people every day,” she says. With each patient, she emphasizes treating the whole person, not just the ailments. “My most important role is to listen,” she says. “That means understanding my patients, their lives and their concerns before I start prescribing or advising.”
As an educator and advocate, says Dr. Hua, “My style of communication is direct. I will be honest and forthright with you.” In addition to evidence-based medicine, she focuses on preventive care and lifestyle changes to keep people healthy in a sustainable way. She provides patients with the tools they need to get well and stay well, she says, “but ultimately, I want to empower you to be the leading proponent of your health.”
Originally from Northern California, Dr. Hua attended the University of California, Berkeley, before coming to Oregon for medical school. She graduated from the Western University of Health Sciences in Lebanon, and completed her internship and residency at Legacy Emanuel Medical Center and Legacy Good Samaritan Medical Center in Portland. She is board certified in internal medicine.
In her free time, she enjoys being active in the outdoors, from hiking and camping to surfing and kayaking. She also likes to travel and explore different cultures and cuisines.
