Gary S. Kim, MD

I received my medical degree from the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences in Bethesda, Maryland. I completed my internship and residency at Wright Patterson Medical Center in Dayton, Ohio. I was born in Boston, Massachusetts and grew up in Colorado. After doing my medical training through the military, I served 10 years as an active duty physician in the US Air Force. I moved to Portland in 2012 after completion of my service commitment and have been working at The Portland Clinic ever since. I feel that my role is to be an advisor and consultant to my patient’s health. I feel it is important for patients to be active participants in their care. I try and reach a consensus health plan with my patients, based on evidence-based medicine and the patient’s own preference. I encourage healthy lifestyle and preventive care which go a long way in minimizing future illness. One of the great things about The Portland Clinic is our interconnectivity between all the major healthcare systems in Portland which greatly enhances continuity of care, patient safety, and care coordination. When not at work, I enjoy spending time with my family, especially entertaining and being entertained by my two young children. I also enjoy commuting by bike in our country’s #1 bike-friendly city, eating at food carts, and hiking our beautiful Northwest. Dr. Kim was elected as a top doctor in Portland Monthly’s 2016-2018 “Top Docs and Nurses” feature.
