Dr. Benner joined the Internal Medicine department in August 2010 as a physician who specializes in comprehensive primary care. After completing his undergraduate degree from UC Santa Barbara he went to medical school at the Medical University of Ohio. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine from UC Irvine with a particular interest in preventative care.
In his free time Dr. Benner enjoys bicycling, surfing and spending time with his family.

This was a "new patient" visit, due to my previous primary care physician leaving her practice. Dr. Benner was recommended by Dr. Mulford, the specialist I would most want to be able to work with my PCP. From the time I called for an appointment until I was seen in the office was one week -- a far shorter time than I had anticipated! He reviews my records to refresh his memory since I usually only see him for annual exams, he doesn't seem rushed during appt,and he reviews lab work with me during my appts. He, or one of his staff, are very prompt to respond to questions I might have via the portal as well as Rx refills so it's reassuring that I will be able to get in touch with him instead of waiting for a return call from his assistantthat may never come, like many other physician offices. Difficult to get in person appointments when the Dr's PA called however I managed to book it online well ahead of the appointment given to me by the person that called me.I like the facilities as well as the care given once you get the appointment.

Dr Benner has always been very interested in my health and given me very good advise. As a result, I started walking and lost 50 pounds. I still had some problems with my health and he advised to do more physical activity, like weight lifting, and I did. As a result, my A1c went down to normal and my blood pressure also did.
