Matt H. Reed, MD

"I was raised in the Pacific Northwest and graduated from Fort Vancouver High School," said Matt Reed, M.D. "I completed college at the University of Washington, Seattle with bachelor of science degrees in both biology and psychology. I then attended medical school at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). My general surgery residency training started on the east coast and ended on the west coast, in the Harvard and UCSF teaching hospitals. After residency, I completed an organ transplant fellowship (liver, pancreas and kidney) at UCSF. I returned to the Pacific Northwest to join the OHSU organ transplant service and have published several research papers in the fields of organ transplantation and brain physiology. While extensively trained in vascular and hepatobiliary surgery, since coming to The Portland Clinic, I have focused on minimally invasive laparoscopic surgeries and the general surgeries of the abdominal cavity, thyroid, breast and soft tissues. Currently, I maintain an active practice in venous disease, performing both open and minimally invasive varicose vein treatments, and referring arterial surgeries to vascular surgery when appropriate. I have been married for over 20 years to my wife Sandra, an Obstetrics and Gynecology physician. We live in Portland and are busy raising our children. I enjoy skiing, cycling, guitar, sushi and reading science fiction."
