About Eric I. Friedman
Eric Friedman, M.D., always enjoyed the science of medicine and its ever changing landscape, which led him to become a medical provider. "I chose surgery because of the immediate impact you can make in helping people," he says. In his practice, Dr. Friedman emphasizes individual treatment plans that take into account all relevant personal and social factors, not just the medical issue. "This allows me to 'customize' the care to fit the patients' particular needs," he said. "Communication is essential to good patient care," says Dr. Friedman. In his eyes, good patient care is compassionate, patient-oriented and personal. "I want to make sure patients understand their treatment plan, the rationale for it, and what the alternatives are. I also discuss the recovery period and what to expect, to make sure the patients' needs are met." In addition, Dr. Friedman's philosophy of care includes compassionate, patient oriented and personal cancer care to patients.
After earning his medical degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, Dr. Friedman completed his internship, residency and fellowship training at Oregon Health & Science University. He is board certified in general surgery and focuses on breast cancer, skin cancer and colon cancer.
Dr. Friedman was born and raised in Philadelphia. He has two grown sons he is very proud of - one in graduate school at the Mayo Clinic studying cancer immunology and the other teaching English in rural Japan. In his free time, he enjoys hiking and traveling.

Providence Patient
I have no doubt but he is a very 'excellent' doctor. He is not exactly super warm and friendly tho. I can understand he was somewhat judgmental ( he did Not say anything tho) but it came across that if I had followed what had been recommended, I would most likely not be in the medical situation I find myself. I get that, and I think he will do his utmost and best! He just is not a super warm and fuzzy kind of person, but he follows the letter of the law, to a tee...Which is good. But I prefer a warmer slightly more compassionate person (even IF I have been foolish...what is done or not done is in the past sooo....). But that is not his job....( to suit my preference of personality) ....however it just is my preference but one does not always get what they 'want'. His nurse however was the best! She was a sweetheart ( and my blood pressure reading showed it haha! He is fine, he is just a serious, perfectionist...which is a good thing if you have to be put to sleep on the table in the near future!
