About Amanda C. Purdy

Dr. Amanda Purdy is a board-certified general surgeon with additional fellowship training in advanced gastrointestinal and minimally invasive surgery. Dr. Purdy was born and raised in Southern California. She earned her undergraduate degree from UCSD, where she graduated at the top of her class, earning the prestigious “Provost’s Award for Outstanding Scholastic Achievement.” Dr. Purdy then went on to complete medical school at UC Irvine School of Medicine, where she was awarded the “Dean’s Award for Outstanding Graduate Student” for again graduating at the top of her class. She then completed her general surgery residency at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, where she served as administrative chief resident. After residency, Dr. Purdy completed a fellowship in advanced gastrointestinal, minimally invasive, and bariatric surgery at UC Irvine.

Dr. Purdy keeps up with emerging medical research and up-to-date technology so she can provide patients with evidence-based care. She has published several peer-reviewed research studies and has presented her work at national meetings.

Her clinical interests include laparoscopic and robotic surgery, the diagnosis and treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), hiatal and paraesophageal hernias, and esophageal motility disorders including achalasia. She also specializes in the advanced surgical treatment of esophageal and stomach cancer.

Dr. Purdy takes pride in her ability to connect with patients and their loved ones. She understands the amount of trust patients put into their surgeon to care for them during a vulnerable time, and she does not take this responsibility lightly. Dr. Purdy looks forward to the privilege of serving as a partner in care for you or your loved one.
