Albert H. Khine, MD

I graduated magna cum laude with highest honors in Biology from Harvard University. I earned my medical degree from Georgetown University School of Medicine. I completed an internal medicine residency at the Yale-New Haven Hospital and a fellowship in gastroenterology at the University of Illinois at Chicago. I was born in Wilmington, DE but am happy to have made the Pacific Northwest my home. I joined The Portland Clinic in 2007. I am ethnically Chinese, but my parents met in Burma (Myanmar) and my last name is Burmese. I believe in listening carefully to my patients and working with them to make educated decisions for their health. I try to emphasize lifestyle and non-pharmaceutical approaches when appropriate, and use evidence-based medicine to guide medications and surgeries when necessary.

At The Portland Clinic, I can easily communicate with other providers to establish the best team approach to our patients’ healthcare. I chose gastroenterology as a profession because I get to work with a wide spectrum of patients. I see healthy people for screening colonoscopies and I see people that have short-term illnesses like ulcers or gallstones. I also love building relationships with people with chronic diseases, such as ulcerative colitis or viral hepatitis.

I think keeping an active mind, body and spirit are crucial to good health. I love learning. Beyond the ever-expanding medical world, I have taken art, language, dance and cooking classes since coming to Oregon. I go regularly to the gym and love taking hikes or bike rides when it isn’t raining! Most important, I love spending time with my wife, family and friends.
