Robert W. Gobbo, MD

Robert Gobbo, M.D., joined Providence Medical Group-Southeast faculty in the summer of 2004. He graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles School of Medicine in 1984 and completed his family practice residency at Santa Monica Medical Center. Upon completing an family practice/obstetrics fellowship in 1988 in Santa Monica, he began his practice in rural Oregon, where for five years he served as the medical director for a community and migrant health center.

Until joining our faculty this summer, he was the associate director and faculty for the Merced Family Practice Residency, University of California, Davis Family Practice Network from 1993 to 2004. Dr. Gobbo has a passionate interest in maternity care and has delivered more than 3,000 babies and performed more than 700 cesarean sections.

He has authored chapters in obstetrical textbooks, the Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics syllabus and the American Family Physician. He is a popular speaker, has been a key member of the core faculty for the AAFP's Family Centered Maternity Care Conferences since 1995. He has given numerous lectures around the United States and Canada to both medical and community groups. His other professional interests include colposcopy, office ultrasound critical care and cross-cultural medicine.

There is nothing more rewarding in the calling of medicine than helping families through difficult transitions in their lives. Whether that is the birth of a child, the return to a state of wellness from illness or injury or the loss of loved one. I am truly privileged to be included in the sanctity of people's lives.
