Olivia Kamayangi, MD

Growing up in rural South Uganda with limited health care, Olivia Kamayangi, MD, saw the effects of disease on her family and community. “I felt I needed to study medicine to make a difference and possibly give back to my community,” she says.

In her practice today, she emphasizes respectful, compassionate and timely health care. “I consider myself part of a team whose main role is geared toward safe medical care for all our patients.”

Dr. Kamayangi earned her medical degree from the University of Bologna, Italy, and completed her residency and internship with the Sparrow/Michigan State University Family Medicine program.

She met her husband in Italy, and their nomadic spirit brought them to the United States. The couple has a daughter. Dr. Kamayangi enjoys dancing Zumba, weight lifting, hiking and traveling. She and her husband founded a charitable organization, the Kigezi Women & Children Health Initiative, whose mission is to empower mothers of children under age five in rural Uganda to decrease early childhood mortality.
