Nusrat Ahsan, MD

While Dr. Ahsan was growing up, she always wanted to be a doctor as her mother told her stories about how her father wanted his youngest daughter to become a doctor but he passed away just before she was born. Ever since, she felt a strong obligation to appease his wish. She believe that we as human beings are on earth to perform God's work and is grateful to be able to do that by practicing medicine and improving the quality of life for her patients.

Dr. Ahsan's philosophy of practice is that relationship is a partnership that is nurtured around preventing and treating diseases.

She likes to ask her patients about the events that led them to their need to visit the clinic. She encourages open communication with her patients by carefully listening to them and their thoughts and ideas to obtain the best thought-out treatment plan. This is how she is able to provide comprehensive medical care for each individual patient.

The most important aspect of the physician/patient relationship is one of trust and respect. As a physician, Dr. Ahsan believes it is critical that patients discuss matters in their personal life in order for her to better understand the root causes and diagnosis.

Ideally, she would like her patients to remember the "first visit" as a new contract on discipline/"will power" and long life.

What she likes most about Family Medicine is that it allows her to see patients of all ages; from children to elderly, and treat a wide variety of diseases from different specialties, surgery to women's health.

Dr. Ahsan loves to practice evidence based medicine and focuses on preventative care in addition to treating acute problems. She enjoys treating patients to get better or heal their ailments that was the reason they originally sought her care.

Her training at USC/LAC and practicing medicine in an outpatient setting in the greater Los Angeles area for the last ten years had made her a more experienced and effective family medicine physician.

She lets patients and their families discuss their knowledge of treatment options given our internet age and educates them on the safest and most effective treatment options. She has come to St. Joseph Health with great enthusiasm and looks forward to serving families of the Orange County area. Dr. Ahsan is thankful for being part of this blessed community.

Dr. Ahsan is married and a mother of two beautiful daughters. She enjoys family medicine as a way of life as she is able to see the needs of family health and well-being daily as a mother and a spouse. After working in a community-based clinic for the past ten years in Los Angeles, she decided to join Mission Heritage Medical Group to settle down in a high-performing public education environment for her children and to be able to assist growing healthcare needs in the local community. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family, cooking, listening to country music, traveling and staying current on family medicine.
