Jean-Huei Yau, MD

Dr. Yau was drawn to medicine by her love of science, teaching, and the privilege of making an impact on others’ lives. “Family medicine is the perfect fit for me,” she says. “I love getting to know families over time and caring for people through all the stages of their lives.”

As a family physician, she sees herself as a guide who helps patients make the best health care decisions possible for themselves and their families. Women’s health and reproductive health are her special passions, including prenatal care, labor and delivery, and postpartum mother-baby care. “It feels magical to be able to guide people through the journey of pregnancy and new parenthood and then care for their growing family for years to come,” she says.

Dr. Yau was born and raised in Albany, Oregon, where she lived until she moved to Massachusetts to attend Wellesley College. Teach For America took her to Houston, where she taught middle school science and physical education for 3 years before she transitioned to medical school at Baylor College of Medicine. “I felt fortunate to be able to return to Oregon for my residency at Oregon Health & Science University and stay for the Salud Rural Maternal Child Health Fellowship,” she says, “and I hope to remain here as my family grows.”

A proud mother, wife, and crafter, she enjoys knitting, crocheting, and embroidering. She is also building her sewing and quilting skills, and she loves to see what her patients with similar interests are working on.
