About Olesya Petrenko

Medicine was the right choice for Dr. Petrenko, she says, because “it combines intellectual challenges with the wonderful gift of getting to help the community and the people around me.” As a board-certified endocrinologist, she adds, “I love that I have the privilege of caring for my patients for many years and forming long-lasting relationships with them.”

Dr. Petrenko’s approach to care is holistic, recognizing that all parts of the body are interconnected and function together as a whole. In addition, she says, “I believe that listening is one of the most powerful tools that doctors have. I hope that patients always leave our visits feeling more positive and reassured.”

After studying health science at McMaster University in Canada, Dr. Petrenko earned her medical degree at Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine in East Lansing. She completed her internship at Florida State University (FSU), and started her internal medicine residency with FSU at Sarasota Memorial Hospital before relocating with her husband to Portland. Once settled here, she completed her residency at Providence Portland Medical Center, where she says, “I quickly fell in love with the Providence spirit and culture, and always hoped to return here for a staff position.” After completing her fellowship in endocrinology, diabetes and clinical nutrition at Oregon Health & Science University, her hopes were realized. “I’m so happy to be a part of this team!” she says.

An avid cook and baker, Dr. Petrenko loves spending free time in her kitchen when the weather is gloomy. When it’s nice out, she enjoys hiking and exploring the Pacific Northwest with her husband and their daughter.
