About William E. Flanary
Dr. William E. Flanary grew up in Houston, TX and completed his undergraduate studies at Texas Tech University, where he was selected to join the Phi Beta Kappa honor society and graduated summa cum laude with a B.S. in Cell and Molecular Biology. During his time at Texas Tech, Dr. Flanary met his wife Kristin, a native Oregonian. After college, Dr. Flanary left the heat and humidity of Texas for New Hampshire, where he attended Dartmouth College’s Geisel School of Medicine. While studying at Dartmouth, Dr. Flanary discovered his love of ophthalmology. He was attracted to the advanced technological aspects of the field as well as the meaningful relationships that are forged with patients and colleagues. Dr. Flanary was inducted into the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society prior to earning his medical degree. He then completed his residency in ophthalmology at the University of Iowa, one of the nation’s perennial top 10 ophthalmology training programs. During his residency training, Dr. Flanary served as Editor-in-Chief of Eyerounds, one of the top ophthalmology educational resources in the world. In his free time, Dr. Flanary enjoys spending time with his wife and two daughters, Charlotte and Claire. They enjoy exploring the natural beauty Oregon has to offer. Dr. Flanary’s hobbies include cycling, kayaking, hiking, and competitive ultimate Frisbee (he has played for top club teams all over the country). He is also a prolific writer, of both medicine and comedy. His work has been featured in The Ophthalmologist and on KevinMD.com, as well as on the popular medical satire website, Gomerblog.com. Dr. Flanary is excited to join the EyeHealth Northwest team. He provides comprehensive eye care services, with expertise in cataract evaluations and surgery, eyelid procedures, glaucoma evaluations, diabetic exams, and much more.
