About James K. Brevig
I have several goals in my interactions with patients: My first goal is to partner with my patients in decision making. To achieve this, I need to educate them regarding their treatment options, and I need to get to know them well enough to give them advice relevant to their circumstances. When I finish my initial consultation, all questions should be answered. My next goal is to perform a technically perfect operation in optimal circumstances. This minimizes the risk of complications, and maximize the chances for an excellent surgical outcome. I use very few blood products in my procedures, and my preference is to use arteries as bypass conduits, because of better long-term outcomes. Lastly, I pay close attention to postoperative care to minimize both complications, and time in the hospital.

The doctor understood the need for surgery on my heart and advanced the scheduled operation up several weeks rather than several months.
