About Warren D. Johnston
Dr. Johnston's primary focus is prevention and treatment of cardiovascular disease, lipid disorders and women's heart disease. He was designated as a 2010 Physician of Excellence by Orange County Medical Association and Orange Coast Magazine, and was the 2008 recipient of the "Spirit of St. Joseph" award at St. Joseph Hospital. A part of the Department of Cardiology at St. Joseph Hospital for 21 years, he is currently the co-director of the Women's Heart Center. He has served as faculty at UCI, and is currently the Chairman of the Department of Cardiology at SJHMG. Dr. Johnston is accepting new general cardiology patients.

I have an issue that is not "right" that brought me to this doctor. He was thorough and ran tests to ensure I was "healthy" but the cause of the issue was not discovered and therefore not discussed. I had to restate my question regarding about how to proceed if the original issue occurred again 3 times before he actually stopped auto mode and answered my question. (He is knowledgeable and kind, but he clearly has trouble slowing down and listening.) I self-advocate, so I pretty much made him answer my question.On my 1st visit, I also asked about a possible chronic medical issue that I likely have and my daughter does have. My daughter's cardiologist prescribed medicines because her condition is severe - and the meds have been life changing. He offered to order a tilt test (which is incredibly uncomfortable, and unnecessary if I don't have orthostatic issues) but henever offered to check my orthostatic. He states that If I have the chronic Issue, he would just tell me to drink lots of water and eat salt, and I'm already doing that. Again - I did not feel like he was addressing my concerns. Side note - one of the symptoms of this chronic issue POTS - is exercise intolerance and elevated heart rate. I went to see him because after exercising, my Apple Watch notified me that my heart rate was elevated at [ID] during r for three days.

I have been seeing Dr. Johnston yearly since my angioplasty stent placement in 2015 and he always asks how I am feeling and checks my heart and lungs with a stethoscope. He changed my cholesterol medicine from Atorvastatin to Repatha as I complained of muscle weakness and had tests done that showed I was having serious problems with the statin. He definitely listens and takes good care of me.

I had arterial fibrillation issue with my heart. When I called the doctors office for appointment, it was over a month away.. Although I had an unusually long wait in the exam room, my doctor was highly apologetic, explaining that the patient ahead of me had some unusual issues to address, which I understood and about which I was not upset.
