Kevin J. Koomalsingh, MD

Dr. Koomalsingh fell in love with the heart during a physiology class in medical school. While pursuing more education about this fascinating organ, he was drawn to the specialty of cardiac surgery. The first cardiac surgery he witnessed was hypothermic circulatory arrest and knew right then he wanted to master the skills of such intricate surgeries. As he began his career in general surgery, he found himself researching further into the field of cardiac surgery, specifically heart transplantation. In a moment of realization he knew “transplantation was mind blowing and… that’s what I wanted to spend my life doing.”
Following his undergraduate studies in New York, Dr. Koomalsingh attended medical school at St. Georges University School of Medicine in West Indies, Grenada. His internship and residences brought him back to the state of New York at Maimonides Medical Center and Columbia University Medical Center. His fellowship in cardiothoracic surgery was completed at Cedar Sinai Medical Center the leading heart transplant program in the world, where he also completed his advanced fellowship in mechanical circulatory support and heart transplantation. With the tremendous educational background, he comes to us following a role as an associate professor of cardiothoracic surgery at the University of Washington in Seattle; a well-respected institution in the area of heart transplant. Dr. Koomalsingh is board certified with the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Thoracic Surgery.
