Are you living with knee or hip pain? Many people think joint pain is an inevitable part of aging. But if you have suffered an injury or have joint pain from arthritis that interferes with walking, exercise, recreation or work, having joint replacement surgery can be life-changing. We Keep You Informed We will share information with you up front on what will happen before, during and after surgery. Our program focuses on wellness, group rehabilitation and the involvement of family or friends to ease your anxiety and ensure you have the best possible recovery.
Seminar Helps You Prepare Once your surgery is scheduled, your orthopaedic surgeon’s office will contact you to schedule an education seminar at the Orthopaedic Healing Center. You will join a group of other patients to receive information about what the surgery entails and what to expect during your hospital stay and recovery. You will be able to ask questions and meet the Orthopaedic Healing Center team who will be taking care of you during your stay. Watch our educational videos.
Team Approach Speeds Recovery Our highly skilled team of orthopaedic surgeons, dedicated nurses, therapists and other caregivers will create an individual treatment plan for you and help you through the rehabilitation process. During rehabilitation, you will have the opportunity to interact with other patients who have had total joint replacement surgery. Sharing the rehabilitation process with others in similar situations is motivating and promotes quicker healing.
Coaches Offer Support and Motivation You will be asked to bring along a family member or friend who will act as your coach throughout your preparation and rehabilitation. Your coach should be available to accompany you to the pre-surgery education class and post-operative therapy sessions, as well as assist you at home as needed throughout your recovery. Having a coach participate in your care can build your confidence, which typically leads to a faster recovery and earlier discharge from the hospital.
Get Back to an Active Lifestyle Patients who have total hip or total knee replacements typically recover quickly. You can expect to walk the first day after surgery and be discharged from the hospital 2-3 days after surgery. You and your coach will receive complete instructions on medications, follow-up care and your exercise/therapy program.
Most patients return to driving in 2-4 weeks, dancing in 4-6 weeks and golfing in 6-12 weeks. All of the team members of the Orthopaedic Healing Center are dedicated to helping you return home and get back to the activities you enjoy.
